Since it was set up in 2007, the institutions in the BBVA Microfinance Group have originated more than USD 19 billion in loans to low-income entrepreneurs. The magnitude of the financial inclusion challenge in society’s vulnerable segments means that further work must be done to reach the segments furthest away from the financial system, facing up to the challenge of making small-scale transactions sustainable.
