BBVA Microfinance Foundation headquarters lighted orange for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

This Saturday, the whole world donned the color orange for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Symbolic buildings around the world lighted their headquarters to join the United Nations’ initiative and protest against assaults to women, whose proportions have risen to one out of three in the population.

The BBVA Microfinance Foundation plays a part in promoting women’s economic independence through financial inclusion, to encourage their self-sufficiency. Moreover, the Foundation works on various initiatives to support victims of gender violence such as projects including legal counselling, psychological support or lectures on awareness. Because of this, the BBVA Microfinance headquarters in Paseo de Recoletos, Madrid was lit up in orange on the 25th of November. This way, the Foundation joined Ciudad BBVA, the EU Parliament and the Christ Redeemer of Río de Janeiro, among other monuments, corporate offices and government buildings in creating awareness for this basic human right.

UN’s “Orange the world” campaign signaled the start of 16 days of activism to end violence against women and girls. This initiative will last until the 10th of December, on the Human Rights Day.
