Banco ADOPEM customers awarded Citi 2013 Micro-entrepreneur Awards in several categories

ADOPEM customers were named winners in several categories at the 9th Citi 2013 Micro-entrepreneur Awards organized by the Citi Foundation and the Council of American Development Foundations (Solidarios).

Banco ADOPEM customers Randy Ovalles Grullón, Amable Rafael Yanes González, and Freddy Alberto Berroa Pérez received the winning awards in the categories “Agriculture and Fisheries Micro-enterprises”, “Young Entrepreneur Micro-enterprise”, and “Environmental Protection and Improvement Micro-enterprise” respectively.

Olga Lidia Araujo Martínez and Porfirio Cedano Herrera came second respectively in the categories “Environmental Protection and Improvement Microenterprise” and “Agriculture and Fisheries Micro-enterprise”, and the entrepreneur Carmen Milagros Santana took third place in the “Educational Micro-enterprise” category.

The six prize-winning entrepreneurs nominated by Banco ADOPEM were selected from among 221 candidates from 14 microfinance institutions.

Mercedes Canalda de Beras-Goico, executive president of Banco ADOPEM, thanked the customers for their confidence in the Bank and expressed her satisfaction at the fact that these awards have helped meet the goal of demonstrating how productive finances can contribute to the development of micro-enterprises.

The executive highlighted the significance of these awards in recognizing and promoting the importance of micro-enterprise in the country’s economic and social development, in addition to raising awareness of the key role played by productive finances in reducing poverty.

She noted that behind these men and women there are inspirational stories that show that with discipline, dedication, and support for their cause they can find the means to move ahead and thus benefit society as a whole.

The awards ceremony took place at the Hilton hotel and was presided over by Máximo Vidal, general manager of Citi Dominican Republic.
