Banco ADOPEM will support the National Literacy Plan ¨Quisqueya Aprende Contigo¨, run by the government of the Dominican Republic, as a way of contributing to reducing poverty in the country and improving the quality of life of the Dominican people.

Mercedes Canalda de Beras-Goico, executive president of Banco ADOPEM, confirmed the bank’s incorporation into this project which will improve the literacy skills of over 50,000 of the bank’s customers and will be formalized in an agreement with the technical team of the National Plan ¨Quisqueya Aprende Contigo¨.

ADOPEM will take part by registering customers in the different bank branches located in the main cities in the provinces all over the country. Furthermore, the audiovisual equipment installed in the branch offices will broadcast the modules of ¨Quisqueya Aprende Contigo¨ to motivate customers to sign up for the program.

Canalda de Beras-Goico said that there are large numbers of customers in the rural sector in the interior of the country with a high rate of illiteracy and thus at greater risk of social exclusion.

She announced that Banco ADOPEM and ADOPEM NGO would soon start the process of registering and identifying the customers who need to improve their literacy skills in order to meet the goal of the central government of the Dominican Republic of eradicating illiteracy this year.
