Teamwork between the business world and academia, in order to train upright professionals with theoretical capacities reinforced by the experience provided by practice, is what has been achieved in creating the “Microfinance Management Diploma” created by Javeriana University under an agreement with Bancamía. This area of banking, which has been involved with providing new opportunities to improve the quality of life of millions of people at the base of the economic pyramid, is now in a process of growth in Colombia and several countries in Latin America
Javeriana University and Bancamía worked on creating the content, through being mentored by the experts working for this bank, with the aim of creating a program to contribute to the strengthening and expansion of microfinance, in addition to responding to the growing demand for experts in this sector of the economy.
The program that will be given over the Internet and consist of 125 hours over a four-month period, in which professionals can study the microfinance system as a whole, the specific features of this market and its institutions, the basics of financial mathematics, legal aspects of business, risks associated to the activity, qualitative and quantitative methods for assessing loans to micro- and small enterprises, in addition to managing the portfolio, and various other subjects that will enable participants to develop the necessary skills to be able to perform in this economic field.
An important factor is that the students that get the best academic results and agree to comply with the requirements of the employment relationship of Banco de las Microfinanzas Bancamía S.A. will have the opportunity to participate in the process of recruiting human talent scheduled by the organization.
The Diploma can be taken from different parts of the country because it does not require any face-to-face training. The registration period is open and the Diploma starts on April 10.
