At the United Nations headquarters in New York, the CEO of the BBVA Microfinance Foundation, Javier M. Flores, stated that SDGs are “an excellent roadmap and their achievement requires the cooperation of governments, the private sector, civil society and citizens to ensure we leave a better world for future generations”, during the presentation of the new  SDG Fund report “Universality and the SDGs: Business perspective.”

This report examines some of the key issues facing companies when incorporating and implementing the sustainable development goals within their organizations and presents some case studies of companies and institutions making up the Advisory Group for the Private Sector of the SDG Fund. Case studies that show how the SDGs can be incorporated into the company’s activity, as well as the opportunities these sustainable development projects can create.

The methodology applied by the BBVA Microfinance Foundation and its group of microfinance banks, Productive Finance, has been one of the case studies highlighted in the report. This Spanish foundation has granted over 8.3 billion dollars in productive loans to low-income entrepreneurs in Latin America.

The points of view of over one hundred companies from around the world have been included in this report based on global dialog with the private sector. The publication also includes the vision of business leaders and best practices from both large and small companies, since the new development agenda applies to all countries, is the responsibility of all, and not only provides a space for involvement by the private sector, but also requires its active participation to speed up the attainment of these major and ambitious global goals for individuals and our planet.
