Cristina de Parias, director for BBVA Spain until december last year, started her professional career in Paris, at Banco Español de Crédito and afterwards, in Citibank Madrid. Her work at BBVA started more than 20 years ago, where she undertook important challenges in different positions of responsibility in strategic areas such as innovation and digital business development, payment methods or insurance. She joined the BBVA Spain and Portugal steering committee in 2014, to lead digital transformation and reinforce the sales network in the region.

Her experience in building and leading teams was acknowledged two years later, with the “Best Director” award from the consultancy firm, Great Place to Work. Also considered were her contribution to business results and her role in developing a business model focused not only on the former, but also on the people.

Cristina holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from Seville University, her hometown, and an MBA from the IESE Business School.

Her broad experience in BBVA and other relevant entities in the financial sector, especially in digitalization, enhances BBVA Microfinance Foundation’s commitment to continue improving the value proposition and make technological solutions available to its six institutions, with the aim to pursue its sustainability and global leadership in the microfinance sector.

Furthermore, the close liaison of Cristina de Parias with Fintech companies will encourage the Group to use technology to explore new initiatives to drive the progress of the 2.2 million plus low-income entrepreneurs served in Latin America, accelerating the fulfillment of its purpose: the sustainable development of these persons.

With this appointment in its Board of Trustees, presided by Anna E. Cabral, BBVAMF’s highest governing body is now composed of a majority of women.
