  • Antonia Reyna, a hardworking woman and owner of the Fonda El Gran Esfuerzo, located in Altos de Tocumen, wakes up very early to start her day and prepare the food for her customers, who arrive early in the morning for breakfast and afterwards for lunch. Antonia has been a Successful Microserfin Client since 2000 and is one of the examples of women entrepreneurs whose productive development we support through our financial services.
  • In 2014, Microserfin provided financial support for 14,196 cliente, 43% of which were women entrepreneurs. Of these, 73% are economically vulnerable.

At Microserfin we are committed to the comprehensive development of Panamanian women and we work day after day to develop products and services and a complete skill-building plan to promote productive development of the most vulnerable groups in our society, looking for ways to improve the lives of these businesswomen and their families through responsible and productive financing, which is our specialty and work method.

In 2014, of the total number of new clients assisted by Microserfin, 43% were women (6,152). Of these, 73% live in conditions of economic vulnerability, 26% have primary education, 21% are young women under 35, 79% are not married or heads of their households, and 28% come from a rural background.

All of these women have applied their determination and effort to develop small productive activities that, with the help of Microserfin, is contributing to their sustainable well-being and that of their families.

The progress of our customers

As of the end of 2014, Microserfin has 14,196 active customers, 71% of whom are vulnerable individuals and 32% of whom only have basic or primary education. As regards the progress of customers assisted by Microserfin during this year, their sales grew by 8% annually, their assets increased by 24% and their surplus increased by an average of 9% per year. 96% of our customers are currently achieving success in the business enterprise they have embarked on.

Microserfin is one of a group of institutions under the BBVA Microfinance Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 2007 and specialized in sustainable economic and social development that is inclusive of society’s most disadvantaged people. The BBVA Microfinance Foundation recently signed an agreement with ONU Mujeres for joint cooperation to promote development and the inclusion of businesswomen with few resources in Latin America and the Caribbean.
