Their work is spectacular and we are already seeing progress in future generations; their kids and grandchildren go to school and many even make it to college. Flores, Claudio Gonz\u00e1lez-Vega and the Management Team of Bancam\u00eda<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Soacha, a priority area for United Nations<\/h3>\n<p>Fifteen miles outside of Bogota,<strong> Soacha is one of the poorest areas in the region<\/strong>. This city of 500,000 is also one of the places that has taken in the most people displaced by armed conflicts in Colombia. That\u2019s why <strong>the United Nations and the World Bank have made it a priority to take action in the area<\/strong>. So has Bancam\u00eda: <strong>since 2008 it has provided service to 6,685 displaced individuals.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9401\" style=\"width: 690px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9401\" class=\"wp-image-9401 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/dsc_1006-1024x672-1024x672.jpg\" alt=\"dsc_1006\" width=\"680\" height=\"446\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/dsc_1006-1024x672.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/dsc_1006-1024x672-180x118.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/dsc_1006-1024x672-768x504.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-9401\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Francisco Gonz\u00e1lez with Linda Cruz, owner of the loom and customer of the BBVAMF<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The footprint of the Microfinance Foundation, a non-profit financial institution BBVA created in 2007, <strong>covers 91% of Colombia\u2019s territory,<\/strong> where it grants over a thousand loans a day that average around \u20ac1,181. 71% of its customers are disadvantaged individuals and 44% live in rural areas. Thanks to Bancamia\u2019s work, the percentage of poor customers has dropped 32% two years after working with the bank.<\/p>\n<p>With over 1.8 million customers throughout Latin America, <strong>BBVAMF is one of the most prominent non-profit initiatives on the continent.<\/strong> The UN has recognized its major contribution to fighting poverty and promoting gender equality, as well as efforts to support economic growth and dignified work.
