At the worldwide scale, <strong>almost half of all women of working age have no access to employment<\/strong> (compared to less than a quarter of men), the salaries for jobs available are on average 24% lower than for men, and most are in the informal economy.<strong> The causes include the lack of education and the imbalance in household responsibilities<\/strong> (on which women spend an average of 2.5 times more time than men).<\/p>\n<p>This is why <strong>entrepreneurship is one of the few options that enables many women to generate income for themselves<\/strong> (one third of women have no income) and one that also allows them to continue taking care of their home and their children. The typical profile of these entrepreneurs is a poor rural woman, uneducated with dependent children engaged in low-productivity activities.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6108\" style=\"width: 630px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6108\" class=\"wp-image-6108 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/laura-en-costa-rica.jpg\" alt=\"Fotograf\u00eda de Laura Fern\u00e1ndez Lord de la FMBBVA en Panel de Empoderamiento de la Mujer de Naciones Unidas\" width=\"620\" height=\"290\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/laura-en-costa-rica.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/laura-en-costa-rica-180x84.jpg 180w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-6108\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Our women entrepreneurs save 35% more than men, despite earning 25% less\u201d, according to Laura Fern\u00e1ndez Lord, head of Gender Equality and Women&#8217;s Empowerment at the BBVAMF<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to the World Bank, gender inequality is also present in access to the financial system: <strong>&#8220;In 2014 only 58% of women worldwide had access to a current account, as opposed to 65% of men&#8221;<\/strong>.\u00a0 This situation gives even great weight to the declarations of the <a href=\"http:\/\/segib.org\/\">Ibero-American General Secretary<\/a>, who also took part in the meeting: <strong>&#8220;The way to bring about faster and more sustainable economic growth lies in the economic inclusion of women&#8221;<\/strong>, said <strong>Rebeca Grynspan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Latin America and the Caribbean is the only region where there has been a study of the poorest households over time according to their gender composition.
