{"id":29150,"date":"2020-01-30T17:27:41","date_gmt":"2020-01-30T16:27:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/la-fmbbva-en-el-principal-foro-intergubernamental-sobre-igualdad-de-genero-de-america-latina\/"},"modified":"2020-03-20T17:55:59","modified_gmt":"2020-03-20T16:55:59","slug":"la-fmbbva-en-el-principal-foro-intergubernamental-sobre-igualdad-de-genero-de-america-latina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/en\/la-fmbbva-en-el-principal-foro-intergubernamental-sobre-igualdad-de-genero-de-america-latina\/","title":{"rendered":"BBVAMF at Latin America\u2019s most important gender equality forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/conferenciamujer.cepal.org\/14\/en\/documents\/womens-autonomy-changing-economic-scenarios\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Women\u2019s autonomy in changing economic scenarios\u2019<\/a>\u00a0was the central theme of the <a href=\"https:\/\/conferenciamujer.cepal.org\/14\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">14th Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean<\/a>,<strong>\u00a0the region\u2019s most important inter-governmental forum on gender equality<\/strong>, where\u00a0BBVA Microfinance Foundation has taken part for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>Every three years, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cepal.org\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Economic Commission for Latin America &amp; the Caribbean (ECLAC)\u00a0<\/a>organizes this meeting with the support of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UN Women<\/a>\u00a0and a host country. This year, Chile hosted the event. At each meeting, as well as looking at the situation of Latin American women in terms of their personal independence and rights, the activities are analyzed in compliance with regional and international agreements, and public policy recommendations for gender equality are made.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supporting them has a positive impact on sustainable development and on reducing poverty\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Equality was also discussed during the panel whereLaura Fern\u00e1ndez,\u00a0head of Women\u2019s Empowerment in BBVAMF, spoke during a launching event organized by UN Women, the European Union and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilo.org\/global\/lang--en\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Labor Organization (ILO)<\/a>\u00a0at the ECLAC headquarters, attended by a delegation from the Foundation\u2019s Chilean institution, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/entidades\/fondo-esperanza-spa\/\">Fondo Esperanza<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_28999\" style=\"width: 291px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-28999\" class=\"wp-image-28999\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/IMG-20200129-WA0013-180x135.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"281\" height=\"196\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-28999\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Laura Fern\u00e1ndez, head of Women\u2019s Empowerment in BBVAMF, 14th Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>\u201cOur productive finance model shows that investing in the activities of the over 1.2 million women entrepreneurs we serve, improves their business performance and helps them escape poverty\u201d<\/strong>, she noted during her speech, adding that \u201csupporting them has a positive impact on sustainable development and on reducing poverty\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Held from January 27th through 31st, the conference also provided an opportunity to discuss other issues, such as progress and challenges for implementing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lac.unwomen.org\/en\/noticias-y-eventos\/en-la-mira\/beijing-plus-25\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Beijing+25<\/a>\u00a0in Latin American countries. An analysis which will provide findings for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\/csw\/csw64-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CSW64<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\/get-involved\/beijing-plus-25\/generation-equality-forum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Generation Equality Forum<\/a>, both of which were set up by UN
