According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), <strong>70 million people are subject to displacement, and 25 million of them are refugees.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>These figures, which increase due to poverty, inequality or armed conflicts, have made this issue a priority within the agenda of governments and cooperation agencies. This was what arose during the <strong>Global Refugee Forum,<\/strong> held recently in Geneva (Switzerland), where the BBVA Microfinance Foundation participated.<\/p>\n<p>This forum, organized by UNHCR, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/en\/bancamia-comprometida-los-refugiados-venezolanos\/\">Tent Partnership for Refugees<\/a> and the International Chamber of Commerce, have gathered private sector representatives, and other key development players, to discuss about the role of companies in constructing a more united and just world.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can&#8217;t afford to abandon refugees to hopelessness, nor their hosts to bear the responsibility alone.<strong>\u00a0We need international cooperation and practical, effective responses&#8221;<\/strong>, stressed the United Nations secretary general, Antonio Guterres.<\/p>\n<p>Read the main conclusions of this year&#8217;s forum in this article, as well as the ways which the private sector can contribute to improve the lives of refugees:<\/p>\n<div class=\"col-sm-6 col-sm-offset-3 col-xs-12 box_info box_info--grey_light\"><div class=\"text-center\"><span class=\"icon\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7940\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/12\/Captura-art\u00edculo-refugiados-bbva.com-ingl\u00e9s.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"80\" height=\"80\"><\/span><div class=\"text-center title\">What do Albert Einstein and a Venezuelan refugee have in common?<\/div><div class=\"text-center\"><a class=\"button mini pdf\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbva.com\/en\/what-do-albert-einstein-and-a-venezuelan-refugee-have-in-common\/\" target=\"_blank\">Access BBVA.com<\/a><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No other moment in history has ever seen this great flux of migrants.
