This program, less than two years in operation, is included <strong>among the 10 best initiatives under the Sustainable Finance category<\/strong> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.premioslatinoamericaverde.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Latinoam\u00e9rica Verde<\/em> Awards Top 500 Ranking.<\/a> This list acknowledges programs from Latin America and Spain that highly contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n<p>FRA offers different types of loans adapted to farmers\u2019 needs to improve their resilience and enhance their productivity. <strong><em>Agromujer<\/em><\/strong> is an example: it pays special attention to female farmers and considers their lack of collateral, which is one of the biggest obstacles for them to access financial services. Aside from loans, the program includes financial education, entrepreneurship courses and technical assistance.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Latinoam\u00e9rica Verde<\/em> Awards, supported by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.undp.org\/content\/undp\/en\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United Nations Development Program<\/a>, has recognized FRA\u2019s impact in Azua, one of the poorest provinces in the Dominican Republic, where poverty rates run between 60%-70%, according to the Department of Economics, Planning and Development. BBVAMF serves almost 24,000 entrepreneurs in the region through its Dominican MFI. They are part of more than 380,000 people supported by the institution nationally, where 67% of them are women, and 41% live in rural areas.<\/p>\n<h3>The BBVA Microfinance Foundation, committed to the environment<\/h3>\n<p>In addition to the FRA initiative, which in 2017 has been awarded by the IDB with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/en\/bid-premia-banco-adopem-labor-las-zonas-rurales-republica-dominicana\/\">Inter-american Awards for Financial and Entrepreneurial Innovation<\/a>, the Foundation also fosters other \u201cgreen finance\u201d programs. In Colombia, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/en\/bancamia-implanta-proyecto-adaptacion-cambio-climatico-para-agricultores\/\">through MEbA (Microfinance for Ecosystem-based Adaptation)<\/a> and together with the United Nations Environmental Program, the resilience of rural and vulnerable populations is strengthened in the face of possible climate change effects.
