For the first time, representatives of different international organizations\u00a0 took part in the Meeting: as Martin Spahr, senior operations officer of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifc.org\/wps\/wcm\/connect\/corp_ext_content\/ifc_external_corporate_site\/about+ifc_new\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IFC (WB Group)<\/a>, Natalia G\u00f3mez, regional director for Latin America at <a href=\"http:\/\/bfaglobal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bankable Frontiers Associates (BFA)<\/a> and Luiza Carvalho, regional director for LAC at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UN Women<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For a higher outreach and greater efficiency, the BBVA Microfinance Foundation <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/en\/sector-development\/innovation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">invests in technology as a tool to advance development<\/a>, while innovating in the working methodology of its 8,000 employees, positively contributing to improve our service to entrepreneurs. According to Spahr, \u201cfor microfinance institutions, data has become another relevant asset.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Data has become another relevant asset for microfinance institutions&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another priority is the evaluation of the entrepreneurs\u2019 progress overtime: the improvement of their businesses, their education, their homes, etc\u2026 <strong>An evaluation that is also a management tool.<\/strong> BFA\u2019s regional director for Latin America, Natalia G\u00f3mez, highlighted the importance of understanding the complexity of the variables used, interconnected as they are, to produce a valuable assessment. BBVAMF started publishing the findings of its own measurement system, and has since been sharing it in international microfinance forums. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/informe-2017\/index.php?lang=EN\">2017 edition<\/a> of the Foundation\u2019s Social Performance is available to the public, and has been launched at the closing ceremony of the BBVAMF\u2019s Leadership Meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>The BBVA Microfinance Foundation and its commitment to women<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u201cAn important part of the progress in gender equality is due to collective awareness; it\u2019s not a women\u2019s battle, it\u2019s a society\u2019s struggle.\u201d<\/strong> With these words, UN Women\u2019s regional director for LAC, Luiza Carvalho, inaugurated the second and final day of the Meeting. During her speech which addressed women\u2019s situation and UN Women\u2019s efforts in the region, the representative of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/en\/institutional\/partnership-agreements\/\">the Foundation\u2019s strategic partner<\/a> discussed the importance of closing the gender gap.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>An important part of the progress in gender equality is due to collective awareness; it&#8217;s not a women&#8217;s battle, it&#8217;s a society&#8217;s struggle&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Luiza Carvalho, even though women\u2019s educational levels have surpassed that of men\u2019s, we still need to push in many other aspects, such as financial inclusion. She says that, <strong>\u201caccess to financial services is crucial for poverty eradication and women\u2019s empowerment.\u201d<\/strong> This is another objective for the BBVA Microfinance Foundation, who serves more than a million women with financial products and services tailored to their needs, together with training, so they can learn how to best invest in their businesses and save more people and serve them more efficiently<\/strong>; one that also points\u00a0 towards a horizon which gave rise to the Foundation, and marked its ultimate purpose: to end poverty leaving no one
