This is why, universal financial inclusion remains a top priority for United Nations.\u201d With these words UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed summarized\u00a0 some of the key points of the High Level Panel, held in Madrid <strong>during the Forum on Financial Inclusion and Development, <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/en\/hm-the-queen-of-spain-chairs-bbva-microfinance-foundations-tenth-anniversary-celebration\/\">organized by the BBVA Microfinance Foundation (BBVAMF) in its 10th anniversary celebration. <\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even though she was unable to attend the event, she highlighted in a video message the fact that despite significant progress in recent decades <strong>still around 2 billion adults are excluded from formal financial services<\/strong>, more than half of them women. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development includes access to financial services across its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/en\/sector-development\/sustainable-development-goals\/\">17 Sustainable Development Goals.<\/a> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"La vicesecretaria general de Naciones Unidas, Amina J. Mohammed, sobre inclusi\u00f3n financiera\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mVue9BxygJ8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amina J. Mohammed&#8217;s video message gave way to the panel with the reprentatives of the Foundation&#8217;s strategic partners. Claudio Gonzalez-Vega, BBVAMF&#8217;s Chairman of the Board of Trustees and moderator pointed out that the celebration of the achievements must come with <strong>the acknowledgement of urgent pending tasks and best tools for achieving them.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Talent is equally distributed around the world\u2026 opportunity is not<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u201cTalent is equally distributed around the world\u2026 opportunity is not.<\/strong> Talent is not materializing into progress because people with great ideas are not given the opportunity of financial inclusion.\u201d This is what<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/segib.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Ibero-American Secretary General <\/a>Rebeca Grynspan<\/strong> said to emphasize the importance of financial inclusion to achieve sustainable growth and equal opportunities. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Fernando Garc\u00eda Casas<\/strong>,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.exteriores.gob.es\/Portal\/en\/Ministerio\/SecretariosDeEstado\/SecretarioDeEstadoCooperacionInternacional\/Paginas\/Inicio.aspx\" target=\"_blank\"> <strong>Spanish Secretary of State for International Cooperation and for Ibero-America<\/strong><\/a>, alluded to BBVAMF entrepreneurs\u2019 children who have completed university and pointed out the need for public and private actors to co-operate; he also stressed the need of being more creative, innovative and allocating further resources for cooperation.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12272\" style=\"width: 5438px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12272\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12272\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/panelistas.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"5428\" height=\"1223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/panelistas.png 5428w, https:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/panelistas-180x41.png 180w, https:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/panelistas-768x173.png 768w, https:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/panelistas-1024x231.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 5428px) 100vw, 5428px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-12272\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Representatives from international organizations participated in the Financial Inclusion and Development Forum<\/p><\/div>\n<h3>Technology to accelerate financial inclusion<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">World Bank representative<\/a> Matthew Saal, Head of Digital Finance at IFC, explained that <strong>digital transformation of financial services goes beyond mobile banking and electronic money<\/strong>, because aside from channels, it affects products (more data allows the design of customized products) and processes, improving efficiency.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"es\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"es\">Celebrating 10 years of impact by Fundaci\u00f3n Microfinanzas BBVA, and the potential for digital finance to accelerate that impact<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Matthew Saal (@MatthewSaal) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MatthewSaal\/status\/869118642360905728\">29 de mayo de 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On behalf of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iadb.org\/en\/inter-american-development-bank,2837.html\" target=\"_blank\">Inter-American Development Bank<\/a>, IIC Chief Investment Officer Gema Sacrist\u00e1n noted that innovation is responsible for major advances in the region. \u201cInnovation in biometric identity verification, digital wallets, or big data, will allow greater inclusion for communities so far excluded from financial services.\u201d According to her,<strong> rolling out the necessary supporting infrastructure and regulations which foster innovation and protect consumers is critical<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Bridging the gender gap, another major pending task<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The greater exclusion women suffer from labor and financial markets increases their probability to live in poverty along with their children, especially in developing countries. <strong>This situation is aggravated when it comes to single parent households.<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\" target=\"_blank\">UN Women Program Division<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\" target=\"_blank\"> Director<\/a> Maria Noel Vaeza-Ogilvie focused her intervention on these matters. In her words, \u201cif women lack financial inclusion and economic empowerment, the world will continue to stagnate.\u201d She also pointed out that reaching SDGs involves achieving women empowerment. <strong>At the current rate, it would take 170 years for the economic gender gap to close.<\/strong> Therefore, \u201cwe need to be disruptive\u201d, UN Women expert said. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If women lack financial inclusion and economic empowerment, the world will continue to stagnate<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In line with her words, Rebeca Grynspan stated: \u201c<strong>We must also break certain cultural rules to achieve financial inclusion.<\/strong> This is essential for women\u2019s inclusion.\u201d She added that \u201c75% of the so-called <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">neet <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(not in education, employment or training) in Latin America are women, most of them have quit their studies to undertake unpaid care work\u201d. According to her, \u201cbridging the gender gap could add 34% to GDP\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>BBVA Microfinance Foundation, committed with innovation and women\u2019s empowerment<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Serving the vulnerable population means primarily serving women. They represent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fundacionmicrofinanzasbbva.org\/en\/sector-development\/women-empowerment\/\">60% of the entrepreneurs BBVAMF supports<\/a> and 45% of them are heads of households. They start with smaller assets (32% lower than men) but report greater efficiencies and growth rates than men\u2019s businesses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In recent years, the wave of technological change in financial services has improved financial inclusion, quality and sustainability.
